Paibting of my Holy Grail series.. Lake Waccamaw is a place I stayed in my childhood summers. My grandparents own a ranch style, concession stand, long patio, and pier. The back of the building goes right to the water's edge with stairs leading into the water. If you were sitting on the steps you would have this view as in the painting. I set here when I was nine years old. It was one of my favorite spots of the while world. I recreated the view to recapture the beauty of the place.
The lake is seven miles wide and is 30 miles west of Wilmington, North Carolina. It is the largest natural lake on the east coast. It is believed the lake was started after a meteorite had struck in the area around 10,000 years ago causing a peat moss fire. There is also a natural spring that leads into the lake. It is also connected with the Cape Fear River. Between the lake and where the river meets the ocean is an area called Cruiso Island based on classic novel. My ancestors settled in this...
